One Third of Children Lose Contact With Their Dad After A Divorce

So a rather worrying statistic that was released today is that one third of all children lose contact with their fathers following their parents divorce. I can get my head round the fact that it is the fathers that they lose contact with as an overwhelming majority of children reside with their mother following a breakup, but what does astound me is that the figure is 30% – that’s 1 in 3 children who experience a divorce somehow end up being estranged from their father.
I am in no position to preach to anyone as to how to operate their family, and EVERY single divorce case is different, believe me I have seen enough of them, but it does feel as if something is fundamentally wrong for this statistic to be true.
What also worrys me is that the article goes on to report that these children have a high statistical propensity to go on to self harm or become suicidal. Thats just horrible.
I’m sorry to start the Monday off on such a bad note, but when children become the victims of a divorce, it does stop and make you think – at least I hope it does.
